Patricia Skeriotis Presents : Vacation! – Part 17 (San Francisco)

San Fransisco, California!

Save me, San Fransisco!

“The City by the Bay” has a lot of appeal as a vacation destination.

Take a picture with the engineering masterpiece wrought in red called the Golden Gate Bridge. This beautiful and functional bridge has become a national landmark. One can absolutely not visit the city without at least seeing the Golden Gate Bridge.

Plus, it photographs well, no matter the weather . . .

San Francisco

San Francisco

San FranciscoWhen you’re done admiring this cross between art and functionality, take a hike up to the Twin Peaks to get a complete view of the city for the price of a mild and enjoyable hike (or a taxi ride!)

San Francisco
Twin Peaks

San Francisco is notorious for its bouts of dense fog in the dips of the hilly landscape the city is built onto. This only serves to add to the charm of the city.

Don’t miss a ride on the famous trolleys!

San Diego, California!

Located on the south western corner of the country, right on the border of Mexico, San Diego is the land of the perpetual summer sun. This city is the epitome of the “SoCal” (Southern California) style.

San Diego

With gorgeous weather all year long, it’s not hard to imagine how this city has grown so much over the years. Yet it has still maintained its small town feel.

While you’re there, enjoy the seventy plus miles of shoreline. You can spend the day soaking up the sun in a variety of ways. There is beautiful surfing, sandy beaching for sunbathing, and plenty of beach turf for going for a run with your dog or playing a round of beach volleyball .

San Diego

Patricia Skeriotis Presents : Vacation! – Part 14 (Yosemite)

Yosemite National Park!

This 1,200 square mile wonderland of breathtaking landscapes will do exactly that; take your breath away.

Yosemite

Yosemite is a splendorous place, filled with the majesty of nature. Anyone who wasn’t already a nature enthusiast will surely become one upon arrival here.

Local outdoor outfitters will take you on a guided hike or climb to soak in the views. More seasoned adventurers can reserve campsite and explore on their own.

This area of the country boasts huge waterfalls and centuries old trees.

Yosemite

One thing to remember when your rock climbing, cliff jumping or enjoying a leisurely day hike . . .

Remember that this park is also a home. Wild animals live her and depend on this beautiful landscape to survive, so remember to Leave No Trace :

“Take nothing but pictures, Leave nothing but footprints”

Yosemite

Also keep in mind that these are wild animals. They do not respond well to people running up for a quick pet. To quote the expression, “Them’s fightin’ words” to a wild animal. Though I say this in jest, it’s important to respect the personal space of these animals who have their homes here.

But don’t forget to enjoy all that Yosemite has to offer!

The “Magical World of Disney” (Walt Disney World) has become the most visited vacation resort in the world according to Forbes magazine.

Patricia Skeriotis Presents : Vacation! – Part 11 (U.S. Virgin Islands)

The U.S. Virgin Islands!

This chain of islands has long been praised for its beauty and intrigue.

U.S. Virgin Islands

Be prepared to slow down time while you’re on one of the these three islands in the Caribbean: St John, St Croix, and St Thomas. The U.S Virgin islands offer a host of opportunities for adventure and relaxation.

U.S. Virgin Islands

Learning the culture of the islands can be a history lesson on the colonial period or a simple walk around town to listen to the beautiful Creole language that has evolved here over time.

The undisturbed nature, sugary white beaches, and famous crystal clear blue waters will draw you in and anchor you to these exotic islands.

U.S. Virgin Islands

Indulge in fresh fruits and the local cuisine. Be sure to try a plate of Saltfish while you’re here!

U.S. Virgin Islands

But don’t be surprised when you’re joined for lunch by one of the wild iguana that roam the island freely or maybe a smaller lizard will stop by for a look. These animals are harmless and only contribute to the charm of the island. You can of course eat indoors if you foresee this being a problem for you.

Let the island life take you away! Visit the U.S. Virgin Islands!

Cape Cod, Massachusetts!

Patricia Skeriotis Presents : Vacation! – Part 8 (Chicago)

Chicago, Illinois!

The “Windy City” located on the lower shores of Lake Michigan has a rich history that will draw you in.

Chicago

The third largest city in the United States, Chicago has been a hot spot of immigration throughout its history. During the Industrial Revolution, this city took in thousands of immigrants from a wide array of backgrounds coming for work in the Land of Opportunity.

Chicago

Greeks, Polish, Italians and Jews flocked here to realize the American Dream. With them, they brought their rich, cultural backgrounds and unique lifestyles and ideas. All of this came together to make Chicago the bustling, diverse city that it is today.

The Italians brought with the deep dish pizza. This gastronomical delight has become a topic of taste controversy here in the United States as the battle between deep dish Chicago Style and thinner New York style pizza rages on. In order to try the ideal Chicago Style Pizza so that you too can contribute to the debate, you’ll have to go  for yourself.

Chicago

From World Fairs to new art museums, this city has hosted it all and would be glad to host you, too. Go for yourself and find out what you can contribute to this mosaic of culture.
